We had our annual Christmas shopping for the kids at Target on Saturday. I was so looking forward to shopping with some kid but due to COVID, I got stuck with Frank Wooldridge. What a great time we had together shopping for 6 kids. We had a good turnout and it was a lot of fun.
I know you have heard this from me before but we have an awesome group. Thanks to Dan Johnson and Mary Jo Pasek for putting it all together.
Stay safe everyone and Merry Christmas!! See you next year!
Here we are again, BBRC. Due to stay-at-home orders, we are once again in Zoom-land for our last meeting of 2020. Probably the best sight ever was logging in and seeing Craig Holland’s smiling face. Please keep him in your thoughts as he faces his 10th surgery on December 17. As we were waiting for the meeting to begin, we were treated with a 1978 picture of the O’Doherty family when they were on Family Feud. And because it is the season of sharing, here’s the link to their episode https://youtu.be/KfdktNeweD4 You’re welcome! And thanks for Past-President Cheryl Scott for getting the ball rolling.
None other than Santa himself led our meeting. Despite the pandemic, he is jolly and full of holiday cheer, but instead of milk, he is requesting Milkshake Dreams from Dionysus. Mike O’Doherty led us in our flag salute while Athena Collup gave us an emotional invocation. David Lari’s wife, Marti, joined us with grand-pup, Coco. Chelsea Ashcraft brought Felisa Gutierrez as a guest, who we hope will join us permanently.
We went straight to our program where we learned about Bako Box from Kami Paulsen. We learned how Kami sources local goodies for these beautiful tastes of home. She showcased the holiday box that was pre-filled with Bakersfield goodness. She has since sold out, so I recommend you get on the mailing list at www.bakobox.com These boxes will make great gifts to welcome a new neighbor or to wax nostalgic for someone who has moved out of the area. And way to go Pat Thompson for asking Kami about joining BBRC as a member.
Despite the pandemic BBRC members found ways to safely serve the community. The Salvation Army was VERY happy to hear from Community Service Director Denise Haynes asking if we could ring bells for them. An outstanding turn out of bell ringers were seen at Hobby Lobby on December 16, 2020. Enjoy this photo album of the event!
Dan Johnson (and we bet his lovely wife Char was involved) with Mary Jo Pasek found a way to continue one of our club's favorite service projects. "Christmas shopping with kids" went on with modifications on December 12, 2020. Due to the pandemic, we were unable to actually have kids shop with us. The mothers of the selected children are residents of Capistrano Community for Women. Instead Rotarians and their families took the wish lists and did the shopping at Target East Hills Mall. As our renovation efforts continue, our mobile app infrastructure was next on the list for updates. This update to our mobile backend systems also required changes in how the mobile app communicates with ClubRunner.
The latest update of the Mobile app includes infrastructure updates to improve performance and stability, in addition to various bug fixes. The new version of the ClubRunner app will be available later today in both the Apple App Store & Google Play.
You can continue to use the ClubRunner app without downloading its latest version until December 14th, 2020. After this date, older versions of the app will no longer be supported.
