By-laws vote: Thank you to those who contacted me regarding the By-laws vote on Wednesday.  I really appreciate hearing your questions and concerns.  A common question is “If the bookkeeper is going to do all the QuickBooks work and send out invoices, what is the treasurer going to do?” That is a very fair question.  I can assure you the Treasurer position will still have a significant amount of work with receiving, depositing and writing checks, keeping track of happy bucks and fines at meetings, working with president to talk with folks that are very delinquent in their dues, being accountable for the finances, and making sure we stay on-budget. Separating the Treasurer and Bookkeeper functions helps ensure we have accounting Segregation of Duties.  I can assure you Treasurer Martha Samora was VERY happy about the consolidation of responsibilities.

Wine, Place and Show:  Fundraising Chairs Frank Wooldridge and Mike Stepanovich will lead the kick off for our November 4 fundraiser benefiting Wounded Heroes Foundation and Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary Foundation. Knowing these two and their committee you can be sure the fun will be starting with the Kick Off!  And wait until you hear about the ticket selling competition!

New Member:  We will be inducting new member Athena Collup! How awesome is that!

See you on Tuesday August 23 at 6:00 pm at the Crest RV Park. The Park is formerly a Drive In, but I guess if it is a RV Park it is still a drive-in, but without movies. On the other hand, I am sure most of the RVs have DVD/Blu-ray players so it still has movies.  So nothing has really changed, much.

BBRC International Avenue of Service Director Ron Nelms has heard from the Rotary Club of Tehachapi regarding the Ninos de la Promesa in Tijuana. Tehachapi Rotary sent $500 to the orphanage so they could purchase a piano they wanted.  With the funds they bought a nice, used piano in Mexico.  How awesome is that!  A trip to the orphanage is being planned for this fall.  Ron is the guy that will keep on top of it and let us know so we can join Techachapi member and visit this amazing home for the children.
