“We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Budget”
In true Rotarian fashion, the membership really showed up for a very important discussion regarding BBRC club finances. Bravo! Extra kudos to President Pat for his commitment to bringing the club “Back in Black”! Post-COVID inflation and other circumstances have increased the club’s operating costs.
Full minutes from the business portion of the meeting were kept by President Pat’s Exec. Secretary Carol Smith, but the bottom line (see what I did there?) is this:
The motion was made by Jeff Schwartz and seconded by yours truly Cheryl Scott and was overwhelmingly approved that the following changes be enacted, effective September 1, 2023:
- Dues increase to $115/month.
- Leave of Absence dues increase to $70/month.
- 36 meetings at Seven Oaks Country Club (compared to the originally planned 40)
- These changes represent 15 “dark” days and one offsite meeting.
If you were unable to attend the meeting and have questions, President Pat says feel free to give him a call.
All Work and No Play Makes BBRC a Dull Club…
…so, we managed to squeeze in some fun in spite of all the financial talk!
We had a blast from the past with the visit of Past President John Vasinda, class of ’92-’93. Wow, it's great to see him; it’s been a long time!
Happy Spots were forked over by a few folks who seemed willing to add to the club’s coffers. Dennis and Fran Scott recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary with a trip to Greece! Dennis was $49 happy (probably much happier, but that’s as high as he was willing to pay).
Queen Jackie finally made it back from the hinterland, aka her Alaska summer estate. We missed her so much, but alas, she was only $10 happy to be back among us! Seems she’s already missing the 72-degree temps!
Congrats to Cameron Cerda (who was $20 Happy) because he has struck out on his own and started Kern Shutters and Screens, where he will be living the dream and working for himself! Good for you, Cameron!
Yard signs, come get your yard signs! PP Jeff Haynes will bring “A Rotarian Works Here” and “A Rotarian Lives Here” yard signs to next week’s meeting. Get yours for $20 bucks! PP Jeff also stated he would be more than happy to stop by your residence or work and “plant” a sign!
Rotary Family Update
Word has it: Dale Bender is home and on the mend. I can’t wait to have you back, Dale! Denise Haynes updated us on her hubby. He’s doing quite well (and will apparently do anything for a helicopter ride in the desert!). Continue to get better, gentlemen!
