Happy Rotary “Orange Day” everyone! Yes, today Kern County has awakened to being in the orange tier, complying with state mandated COVID restrictions and meeting compliance requirements to ward having more “wiggle room” to engage in more recognizable activities such as attending restaurants, movie venues and the like. It further gives our Breakfast Rotary members comfort towards meeting in person. So welcome one and all to this morning’s installation of The Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary Club. After President David Spalinger last week letting Karen Bonanno cut her teeth on rehearsing for the president’s role, “The Prez” is back behind the podium ready for a great morning of Rotary festivities and shenanigans. David Perkins provided our Invocation speaking words of blessings, wisdom and unity, followed by Ken Quarnberg who led us in America’s Flag Salute. Past President Denise Haynes jumped in to lead us in singing “She’ll be Comin Around the Mountain”! Visiting Rotarians as always has been a bright spot for me. If our club can get members of other clubs to attend our meetings, we must be doing something right! Even if they come from another state…enter Giles Zollar all the way from Las Vegas. Yes, Giles’s gregarious attitude and gutsy poking fun at The Prez is welcome any Wednesday morning. This is the second time Giles has visited us recently, who knows, maybe if Giles is not able to be a remote member to Breakfast Rotary, perhaps he can be a “foreign exchange Rotary member” to us. Stay tuned! |
