Again it is an honor to be the courier of this week’s BBRC newsletter. For those of you that missed this morning’s meeting we hope to see you soon as your presence was surely missed. We began sunrise with the bright smiling faces of Gail Braze and Samy Abiaoui as our trusty greeters, followed by an invocation by handy Dr. Joe Nunez who always leads us with a blessing that inspires us all. Speaking about inspiring, Michael O’Doherty led us right into the Pledge of Allegiance of America’s great symbol of the so many that have given their all for us. And we do…
I remember watching a cartoon as a child of some cartoon character that sang Zippity doo dah and then comes our Past Pres. Neal Walker with his own rendition of that Happy-Go-Lucky looneytune. Smiles everyone!
We would like to take a moment to recognize our weekly anniversaries to include Samy and Gail and Happy Birthday wishes go to brother Harry Bryant, Steve “Snap, Crackle and POP” Shayer, Teresa Waller and Heather Ward. Eat some B-Day cake for the rest of us will ya!
I am glad there was time for Happy Spots and there were many. For example I learned that Ken Quarnburg likes purses, Mary Breckenridge is confused about what area of the Caribbean that County and Western music came from, Gail Braze is trying to out-do me by performing advertisements, Darin Blunt has joined the Girl Scouts and is baking cookies for sale and John Guerard and Dale Bender are JUST PLAIN HAPPY.
Reminders for those who were absent or present, yet absent, that the Bakersfield Rotary All-Club luncheon is approaching March 9th at the Doubletree. The sign up is forthcoming and we need YOU there.
Hey YOU, Charter Night is coming up February 25th at Bakersfield Country Club @6pm. See Queen Jackie Maxwell ASAP to sign up. Must request your food preferences prior to event.
Steve Shayer enlightened us upon the upcoming PRLS training March 10-12 at the Sheraton Inn right here in good ‘ol Bakersfield. $60 fee covers it all and the training provides to attendees skills that will propel you into leadership that we are constantly in need. No, I don’t mean you President Kay, future leaders ONLY! By the way Steve, what a show. I think we need to pay admission to your impromptu shows...
Our very own President-elect Denise Haynes wants us all to know that invoices are on the way for Rotary Foundation. Yes, Rotarians it is who we are and it is what we do so help Denise in promptly responding to your invoices and thank you for all you do BBRCers.
It was announced that $20K, yes $20K will be donated from the WPS fundraiser that YOU helped happen this year to Wounded Heroes and K9 Fund in Need. So proud of you people!
Yes, we have new blood,
Teresa Ramos-Alvarez has joined us as the latest member of our distinguished club. We welcome her and her vast experience in the healthcare field. Teresa is a Fresno State “Bulldog” and helps

protect those in her industry through risk management. According to her sponsor, Sister Judy, Teresa is looking for a family to “kick her in the pants”. Can you help?
And yes another incentive for membership. We call it M&M and we are calling you in the month of March to bring a potential new member. The club is offering gift cards and Paul Harris points to those 1st and 2nd place finishers who bring in great new members just like Teresa Ramos-Alvarez.
No Monkeying Around, as we had
Teresa’s, Dr. Mark Waller as our guest speaker. Mark is a California certified marriage and family counselor who is also a multi-published author. Dr. Mark certainly knows his way around the brain to know that typically there is a lot of interference going on up there which sometimes runs conflict with how we should best conduct our lives. Dr. Mark suggests, we “Train the Brain”. Valuable information and I can see his worth to anyone in the complex world we sometimes live. Great presentation that I think we may need to have a follow up with him. I wonder how much he will charge us. Thank You sir!

Ah yes, winners winners. The mystery gift card goes too…Heather Ward. Darin Blunt receives the Paul Harris points and last but not least Cherryl Bigger you get a prize too. See it pays to show up to BBRC.
Dark next week. We will meet at the Petroleum Club for Kern Pioneer Village update on March 1.
Thaaaaat’s all folks!
