Dear BBRC Friend,

The personal, soul-filling satisfaction we get from spending time together and doing good in our community (and our world) is often reason enough to do what it takes to be called a Rotarian.  Sometimes, though, we desire—or maybe even desperately need—information and knowledge that will help us fulfill the vocational side of our Rotary roles.  Sometimes we need help understanding the changing rules…we need help getting the “lay of the land.”  And sometimes we need someone to say “you can do it; here’s how.”

That’s what we got this week when our own human resources expert, Karen Bonanno, presented our program!  Karen shared her expertise in a seminar-type format, and it was exactly what the doctor ordered when it comes to running a business during a global pandemic!

As we navigate our way through the twisty-turny business environment created by COVID-19, it’s good to know that we have friends right here in BBRC who are willing to share their insight and knowledge, and help us get on the right track.

And you know what?  It’s like that every day, not just during a crisis!

We all know that Rotary is a service organization, first and foremost.  But many of our fellow club members work in professions that we will, at some point, need to call on.  I was asked by a reporter earlier this year, “Is Rotary all about service?  Or is it really all about doing business with each other?”  I explained that the focus of Rotary is, indeed, service.  Then I added that when you serve alongside others, people you see every week, you tend to become friends.  Out of that grows trust and confidence that your fellow club member has your best interest in mind.  Who wouldn’t want to conduct business with someone like that?

In the past two weeks, we’ve learned so much from club members Martha Samora and Karen Bonanno.  In the next few weeks, we’ll be hearing more from experts in our very own club.  For example, next week, our Vocational Moment will be Temo Lopez.  Temo will share his perspective on the pandemic, and what it’s meant for his business, which specializes in home computer repair and small business support.  Is there a club member you’d like to hear more from?  Let me know!

Maybe our slogan should really be, “You’ve got a friend (and an expert) in BBRC!”

Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.  In the meantime, Share Rotary With a Friend!

In Rotary Service & Friendship,

Cheryl
