My dear BBRC friends,

What a challenging time we are facing, as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.  I hope you are all practicing social distancing and, if so directed, staying away from anyone outside your home.  I, for one, am working remotely and trying to keep myself at home!

This is a frightening time, and also a sad time.  We are social creatures, and these guidelines are getting in the way of so many things that we love to do!

But, it will not always be like this.  While we are living out a chapter in the history books of tomorrow, it’s only a chapter.  Let’s all do our part to ensure that this chapter is as short as possible!

In the meantime, I have asked for input from the board and we have decided to “plan for/hope for” BBRC to reconvene on Wednesday, April 22.  We don’t know if things will be better by then, but that day coincides with current school, County of Kern, and City of Bakersfield closures…plus the Petroleum Club will be also closed until approximately that date!  If necessary, we will back up that date.

April dues for BBRC members (all categories) will be reduced to $30.  However if you would like to pay more than the $30, it will help support BBRC activities and we can also get some type of pay to our Petroleum Club morning team of servers.  If that is your desire, when our bookkeeper, Lori Ellis, sends your $30 invoice, respond to her and tell her you would like to be assessed whatever additional amount you choose.  Then she’ll prepare a new invoice for you.).

Finally, let’s talk about how to stay connected.  Now is a critical time to support each other, plus our family, friends, and neighbors.  A quick telephone call, Facebook message, or email can go a long way.  As I have been speaking with some of our members, Mary Breckenridge had the great idea of putting together an “outreach team” that would check in with BBRC members.  If you would like to be part of that team, let me know.

If you have other ideas…let’s talk!  My cell phone number is (661) 599-3805, and my email is cheryl@kedc.com.

Stay safe, and be well, my friends!

Cheryl
