Family Justice Center, PEN Dave, PE Cheryl

This morning’s edition of our newsletter comes following a hiatus of articles. We will be attempting to highlight the membership with news that is relative, informative and mostly Beneficial to All Concerned…
With those words of wisdom, this morning we were greeted with the sunshine of President-Elect Cheryl Scott who stood in for the ailing President Ron Nelms. Batter up with Dan Johnson who shredded out on his guitar “Take me out to the Ballgame”.

Our guest presentation was from The Kern County District Attorney’s Office Family Justice Center Program. Representing the program was Leslie Devitt who shared her passion as an advocate for battered women. A relatively new program for victims of domestic violence, the program encases a number of other social service program that creates a hybrid of services that are available for specific needs. For instance, the program works in partnership with behavioral and substance abuse issues, child support, the Department of Human Services, Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, Victim Compensation, The Pregnancy Center, and development of restraining and custody orders.
Leslie is very knowledgeable and passionate about this program and is always seeking volunteers who may be will to come forward to support, sponsor or lend a helping hand to help our county’ victims of violence.

Member Tom Burke wanted to send out a BIG THANKS to those Rotarian’s in our club who volunteered their time to come out for Kern Yes. The participation was fantastic as about 75 local high school students received a fantastic day long program from Rotarians in some rather chilly weather conditions.

Past-President Kay Pitts is duly recognized for tying and keeping the matrimonial knot tied for 38 years. WoW! Fantastic Kay, you are our example of all good things. Happy Anniversary!

With great applause, we welcome the news from Past President Denise Haynes that David Spalinger has been nominated by the board as President following Cheryl Scott’s reign. The vote was submitted to the membership and there was a unanimous “AYE”. For Dave. We look forward to you taking over the helm.

To all that missed this morning, we will be DARK next week.

The Veteran’s Village is now in the development stage in Oildale. The project is a building endeavor to construct homes for homeless veterans. Our Rotary district has secured a grant which will enable local Rotary clubs to pool monies together to make the project a reality. Local builders and designers will forge ahead with the plans and it is anticipated that by early 2020 we will have our first resident. Another good example of why WE ARE ROTARY! Our own Michelle McClure’s bank Pacific Western has a role in financing the project. We are proud of you Michelle.

For the daily 50-50 our winner is new member Mindi Wilmot! Mindi, Cheryl has your winnings, maybe.
