How to Propose a New Member

Dear Fellow Rotarians:

We need a strong and active membership to enable Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary Club (BBRC) to continue its many activities and projects that benefit both our local and world community. More members mean lighter work and more fun for us all.

As you probably know, our membership goal is 100 members. To reach and maintain that goal, we must continue to bring in new members.

Thank you to those who have sponsored new members and to those who are considering sponsorship. There are some protocols to remember if you plan to propose a member:

  • If you wish to propose your guest for membership anytime after his/her first attended meeting, simply complete a "Membership Proposal Form" and mail or deliver it to the Membership Director or any other Club officer.
  • Please do not inform your guest of this action - a representative from the club will make the appropriate contact.
  • Do not introduce your guest as a proposed or future member.
  • After an approval vote by the BBRC Board of Directors, all membership proposals will be presented to the general membership that then has 10 days to register any dissent.
  • To help avoid embarrassment in the event the Board rejects a membership proposal, members should not invite a specific guest more than two times.  The club pays for the guest's first two visits.
  • As the sponsor, you will be kept informed of the progress toward membership.
Thanks again for your efforts in keeping BBRC strong and productive by proposing a new member.

In Rotary Service,

John Bryan
Membership Director, 2008-2009
