Centennial Project - BARC Mobile Shredding Service
Bakersfield
Breakfast Rotary Club is proud of its Centennial Project - a
partnership with Bakersfield Association for Retarded Citizens
(BARC). BBRC has funded a much needed shredder truck to
provide self-supporting revenue and jobs for BARC clients. The
truck and the BARC employees are now happily shredding away!

Centennial Memorial Grove
On March
11, 2006, many Bakersfield Breakfast Rotarians along with their
families and friends descended on a plot of previously neglected land
near Kern River. In recognition of Rotary International's 100th
anniversary, the goal was to plant 100 trees indigenous to the area
under which a future walkway will be built. Bakersfield Mayor
Harvey Hall and Vice Mayor Michael Maggard were on hand to present an
official proclamation commemorating the event. This project was
spearheaded by BBRC member, Jackie Maxwell.

Other International Projects and Activities
In September 2005 BBRC’s Pete Leveroni and Dick Strayer from Simi-Sunrise visited GSE Team leader Peter Prinsloo from Johannesburg , South Africa . Peter & team had visited BBRC in October 2004. While Pete & Dick were in SA they helped assemble & deliver some of the 500 wheelchairs kits from a grant that Dick had put together. Pete took a side trip to Victoria Falls , Zimbabwe where he visited the Vic Falls Rotary club and the Chamabondo primary school. The school is in desperate need of more classrooms along with basic materials like books & shelves. Pete was able to put together a $14,000 Matching Grant that will provide enough books & shelves for the entire school. The project was funded in June 2006 and is almost complete.
